Upon the project's completion, there will be two possibilities of presentation : The first, and most ideal option, will be through an interactive, public art installation. However, if by the Spring of 2021, this level of human interaction isn't possible, the project will still be created in an online, virtual and interactive environment, which incorporates the sound recordings that we have made in our studios. Either way, the message will be an uplifiting one. The sounds are metaphors of connection, but are also physical. These are the miscrosounds that resonant in our bodies, when we connect.
Sympathetic Resonance is a scientific term that denotates the vibration, and in some cases music, that one object or living thing experiences, due to the vibration, not of itself, but of a nearby vibrating source. One example of sympathetic resonance can be heard when a piano note is played and then immediately dampened. The neighboring strings still resonate the sound, but greatly changed. The sound of 'sympathetic resonance' has been described as full of depth, haunting and echoing.
This project is built as a loving response to the escalating social trauma has caused so many of us to be separated from our friends and loved ones. There was a literal unseen suffering in 2020 : elder generations were separated from sons and daughters, and by the same token, children too young for screens lost their friends. There was a great loss of livelihoods and family businesses. The inability to see the facial expression of our brothers and sisters has not been easy on us. There has been a profound increase in deaths due to depression, isolation and domestic pressures that have not been well reported. It is hopeful that by the Springtime we will have moved beyond the current paradigm. If not, we will present our Sympathy Resonance for humanity through a combination of recordings and a virtual presentation. Most ideally, if our great hopes and prayers prevail, by the Spring or Summer we will share our Sympathy Resonance with a recovered and united humanity at sponsoring parks, art venues and universities.
